Adult Art Club – Jonny Costello

I had the pleasure of meeting up with Jonny Costello from Adult Art Club when he came in to speak to my third year students. Jonny is an art director and visual creator working predominately in the music and youth entertainment sector. He did a long stint as a designer at local agency Fluid before making out on his solo ventures to pursue more edgier design. His journey like many started off with a passion and visual

Gordon Young & the Comedy Carpet

I’m very fortunate as a Lecturer to meet some really interesting creative and inspiring people. Back in early February I got to spend the afternoon with public artist Gordon Young. Gordon specialises in public art, which are mainly typographical. His Comedy Carpet on Blackpool Promenade is been said to be the largest piece of public art in Britain. It shows jokes and punchlines from comedians who have performed

Offset Design Festival – Dublin

I had the pleasure of attending Offset Design Festival in Dublin last week. Offset is a 3 day creative conference held annually in the Bord Gáis Theatre. With an impressive line‐up of designers, animators, illustrators, artists and creatives…I felt quite overwhelmed with inspiration and information as talks ran back to back from 10am-6pm. Over the weekend I saw talks from Hey Studio, Calligraffiti artist Niels

Glug Birmingham

I attended Glug Birmingham last week, a series of design talks set up by Inky Goodness & Created in Birmingham. The talks were by local designers, illustrators and studios celebrating the creative talent of the midlands. I was really impressed by the talks by Dan from Hero of Switzerland, and Norm from Waste Studio. It was a shame that Alex Fowkes was on at the end as a lot of the crowd had filtered out by then.

Busy Bee.

I’ve been so busy the last few months with lots of freelance work, organising wedding stuff, that it’s been a real poor show on the blog front. Anyway, here’s a few things that I have been up to last few months. During April I got a chance to spend a couple of days at brilliant brand agency Stocks Taylor Benson. They work for all sorts of well known brand names such as Jamie Oliver, Lacoste, Next, Canon, Antalis, Mot

The Sign Painters

Last week I was lucky enough to be involved in visual arts Eyecandy festival in happening in Birmingham. One of highlights was catching the screening of The Sign Painters documentary at BCU’s Parkside. It was great to see so many talented sign writers in the US bringing this artform back to life, ditching cheap digital solutions and the resurgence of people like Gap clothing investing in this time honoured craft. www

Jean Jullien – Childline Campaign

French illustrator Jean Julien most recent commission for Childline. Really nice that they have chosen to go down the illustration route, that has cross over appeal rather than the hard hitting photographic usual. I think it makes the charity much more approachable for the target audience. What do you think? Wedding Invites

I’m getting married next year and I’m about to start designing my wedding stationery, no pressure then. Came across these wonderfully creative examples on Pinterest & Francesco Mugnai. I hope I can do mine as much justice and I’ve just joined a printmakers in Birmingham in an effort to silkscreen everything. Wouldn’t mind a bit of laser cutting and scalpel action too but I will post them on here for you to see.
